Spring Garden Getaway

Spring Break Camp
April 7th- 11th; 7:30/9am- 4/5:30 pm
Location: The "Drop-Off/ Pick-Up" Location will be at the LA Teen Center; We will be going on trips each day to other garden sites and locations.
This Spring Break Camp for Middle-School Students will dive into the world of gardening. We will be taking-on various garden related projects, including working on the Y's community garden and the TC's "garden area." We will also be visitng other nearby NM gardens/small farms, as well as doing garden-related activities such as planting seeds starts, garden-structure construction, and arts and crafts projects. Last, but not least, we will have some much-deserved free-time/down-tim each day to enjoy some "Spring Break chillin," relaxing, reading, social media connecting, etc.
Registration takes place at The Y and opens March 3rd, 2014.

Los Alamos Youth Food Project
The Los Alamos Youth Food Project (LAYFP) was a project ran by the Y in order to encourage and enable youth and adults to study and apply historical and current resilient gardening practices, and through the application of these practices, to provide ongoing educational and leadership opportunities for all ages.The Y worked with the Schools, the Chamber of Commerce, Pajarito Environmental Education Center, The Co-op, and a myriad of other community entities and volunteers who helped to make this project a success. Though the terms of LAYFP have come to an end, the Y continues to pursue LAYFP's mission of providing educational gardening for all ages through a project beginning this year: Hilltop Garden, a community garden that the Y is planning to sponsor on county land.

Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board
JJAB strives to help youth and families feel and be connected, valued, and recognized through community, families and individual activities. The board is made up of community members including parents, judges, teens, government leaders, and representatives from numerous community organizations. JJAB funds and organizes programs that have a positive impact on youth, families, and the community. JJAB's vision is for all youth and adults to be positively engaged in our society.
LAYL
Los Alamos Youth Leadership is a program for high school students that runs from August to April of each year. Students learn how to build relationships with family and friends, increase their confidence, learn relationship strategies and participate in outdoor team challenges. Teams create projects that benefit the community throughout the year. This program is in partnership with the Los Alamos Juvinile Justice Advisory Board.Wild Day Registration can be downloaded here.
LAYL registration forms can be submitted at the Family YMCA for the next school year 2013/2014. LAYL registration forms are due by June 27th, 2013.

Youth Mobilizers
The Youth Mobilizers
program directly engages young people through research of local,
releveant issues in a community-change process. Three youth, ages
15-18, who
live in Los Alamos, will receive an hourly wage based on their work and
their own personal and professional development. They will be hired in
August and work Monday through Thursday from 3:30-5:30 pm. This program
is in partnership with the LAJJAB.
